Local reno and lake tahoe area company photography for websites and brochures

November and December have been wonderful months up here in the mountains. Record early season snowfall totals have taken the edge off the winter slowdown and a couple of new corporate clients didn’t hurt either. Champagne Family Dentistry contacted me to take photos for their website update and new brochures. They had previously been using canned stock images of people with big white smiles, and while a few of those are still appropriate for their website, they wanted to show what their office actually looked like using their dentists and clients. I can’t say enough good things about these guys. What immediately struck me, was that this was one of the most modern dental offices I have ever been in. Full electronic records that you can fill out online, automatic appointment reminders to your email or mobile device, state of the art equipment, and a very nice staff. They are in the process of updating their website with images from the recent shoot.

Kaia Fit is a company started in Minden/Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe which now encompasses a small chain of women’s-only training and fitness centers in the California and Nevada area. The founders contacted me after seeing some of my action and adventure photography and we talked about the look they were aiming for with their new website and company expansion. The idea was to create a series of images that would both show the nature and activities of their classes (they do a lot of outdoor fitness trainings sessions using the natural environment,) and also produce a series of images that could be used as posters and decoration at the various studios to give them a sense of continuity. The images are also destined to be used in their printed materials. They have not yet updated their website to include any of the images we shot, but that should come after the new year. This is a fun group of gals, serious about making fitness both functional and enjoyable.

Photos from a recent advertising photo shoot of a torchlight parade and lodge dedication at Mt. Rose ski resort in Lake Tahoe.

Mt. Rose hired me recently to shoot the dedication of their new Winters Creek lodge that replaced the old wooden slide lodge at their ski resort in the mountains above Reno. Their main requirement was that they needed pictures of their torchlight parade, something they have not done in years. Lucky for me I happen to know the proper exposure for a moving flare, because we only got one shot at this. A big thanks to the ski school boss in charge of the parade, John, for altering the plan to come down only one run at the base and split his skiers onto both sides of the mountain at the last minute. That really helped make the shot and fill up the foreground. Using our Nikon d3′s and d700′s, and one d300 on a remote on the roof, I sketched out a plan that involved many exposures. Since running the camera for several minutes while the parade made its way down the mountain would end up over-exposing a lot of the torches, as well as building up a lot of digital noise in the shadows. I opted for a sequenced string of 30 second exposures at iso 200/f8. Another exposure for the lodge (for the shot from below) and yet another to capture a faint deep blue of the dusk. All of these shots were then put together in a sequence, similar to a sequence shot of a skier going off a jump and the results were just what I had planned for. We also were asked to capture some views of the lodge and people using it, but since the party was on, we had little control over lighting or posing and just captured the moments in a pure photojournalistic style and hoped for the best.

Quality action and adventure Photos, stock photos and images from the 2008 Reno River Festival whitewater kayak competition on the Truckee River in downtown Reno, NV

The 2009 Reno River Festival whitewater kayak competition and all around party kicks off May 8. However the pros are already rolling into town to work on their moves. Every year, some of the top freestyle kayakers in the nation kick off the competition season in the biggest little city, Reno, Nevada. Since Reno constructed their whitewater park in a stretch of the Truckee River in the heart of downtown, this event has been a showcase for the river and water sports in general. Eric Jackson and family, Nick Troutman, Stephen Wright, Tanya Faux, just to drop a few high profile names in the kayak world, will be in town showing off the latest tricks, running the local rivers and enjoying the 3 day party that is the River Festival. The fun starts Friday, May 8 with the wacky charity raft race, and the open freestyle kayak competition. Saturday is the big day with the top pros from around the country competing in an invitational event and the new, yet wildly popular run-amok footrace and obstacle course. Sunday gets down and dirty with a no-holds barred boatercross competition. Each night features movie premiers in local bars and free music and yoga in the park by day. Follow this link to get more details on the Reno River Festival 2009 event schedule.
